Eight Thousand Years
of Winemaking
Grapes were first cultivated in the Black Sea area 8,000 years ago. Settlers brought vines to Cyprus 4,000 years ago. By 2,300 BC, the island was a wine trading hub. The 1932–35 Erimi excavation by Dr. Porphyrios Dikaios unearthed vessels confirming the ancient craft. Today, fifteen wineries across the Paphos region carry that tradition forward.
