Paphos is famed as the Birthplace of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty — and so it has become one of the most popular wedding locations in the world. More than 2,000 couples choose to marry here every year, drawn by a Mediterranean climate that allows year-round ceremonies and marriage certificates recognised internationally.

The Essentials

What You Need
to Know

01

Marriage Licence

Required

A marriage licence is required for all ceremonies in Cyprus. Apply through the local municipality office — your wedding coordinator can handle the paperwork on your behalf.

02

Documents

6 weeks prior

Prepare your documents at least six weeks before the ceremony. You will need valid passports, birth certificates, and any additional paperwork depending on your nationality and ceremony type.

03

Notice of Marriage

Varies by type

Notice of marriage must be published in advance. The required period varies depending on whether you choose a civil or religious ceremony — your coordinator will advise on exact timings.

04

Witnesses

Minimum 2

A minimum of two witnesses are required for the ceremony to be legally recognised. If your guests have not yet arrived or you are eloping, witnesses can be arranged locally.

05

Legal Age & Recognition

18 years

The legal age for marriage in Cyprus is 18. Marriages performed here are recognised internationally, so your certificate is valid when you return home.

06

Ceremony Types

Civil & religious

Civil ceremonies can take place at the municipality office or any approved venue — gardens, beaches, hotels. Religious ceremonies are held in churches across the Paphos district.

The Experience

Beyond the
Ceremony

A Paphos wedding is more than the ceremony itself. The days before and after are filled with experiences that turn a destination wedding into something your guests will talk about for years.

Beaches

Year-round

Golden sand, crystal-clear waters, sunset ceremonies with the Mediterranean as your backdrop. The coastline around Paphos offers some of the most photogenic shores in Europe.

Wine Routes

Vineyard visits

Hillside vineyards, cellar door tastings, village tavernas serving meze under the vines. The Paphos wine routes make for a perfect pre-wedding day out with the bridal party.

Archaeological Sites

Unique backdrops

Two-thousand-year-old mosaics, ancient amphitheatres, the Tombs of the Kings. Nowhere else offers wedding photography against UNESCO World Heritage ruins by the sea.

Spa & Wellness

Bridal treatments

Bridal preparation treatments, couples' massages, relaxation sessions for the entire wedding party. The perfect way to arrive at your ceremony feeling completely at ease.

“Pafos has it all for the Bride and Groom as well as the guests — from golden beaches to ancient ruins, wine routes to world-class dining.”
