Where the Mediterranean
Stays Crystal
Cyprus ranks first in the EU for cleanest swimming water. Eighteen Blue Flag beaches line the Pafos coast alone.
The Waters
Eighteen Blue Flags,
One Coastline
The Pafos district holds eighteen Blue Flag beaches spread across six municipalities — from the resort sands of Coral Bay to the remote coves of Neo Chorio. Europe's environmental watchdog ranks Cyprus first in the EU for cleanest swimming water, and the region sits within Europe's top 100 green destinations. This is a coastline that takes its water seriously.

01 — Turtle Bay
Lara Beach
Named among the Telegraph's top 40 beaches in Europe, Lara Beach sits on the Akamas Peninsula — golden sand meeting crystal-clear water with no development in sight. This is where green and loggerhead turtles return each year to nest. From May to August, females come ashore at night to lay eggs; hatchlings emerge 50 to 70 days later. The Lara Bay Turtle Conservation Station, operated by the Department of Fisheries, monitors and protects every nest.

02 — Blue Flag
Eighteen Awarded Beaches
Eighteen Blue Flags fly across the Pafos district — a concentration that few European regions can match. The Municipality of Paphos holds six, Geroskipou three, Pegeia three, Neo Chorio three, Poli Chrysochous two, and Lemba one. Each flag signals water quality, environmental management, and safety standards that meet the highest international benchmarks. The Pafos region is also listed among Europe's top 100 green destinations.

03 — Hidden Shores
Secret Beaches & Quiet Coves
Neo Chorio has been named among Europe's top 10 secret beaches — beautiful views and none of the crowds. Further along the coast, the newly unveiled Mandria Beach offers crystal-clear waters and stunning sunsets in perfect solitude. And Pomos Beach, after three years of upgrades, earned its Blue Flag with a shore fully transformed into a cosy, comfortable and environmentally friendly stretch of coast. The Argaka, Gialia and Pomos coast also holds a Quality Coast Silver Award.

Five Beaches That
Are Worth the Trip
Lara Beach
Golden sand on the edge of a protected wilderness. Green and loggerhead turtles nest here every summer — one of the last undeveloped nesting grounds in the Mediterranean.

Neo Chorio
Beautiful views and none of the crowds. Named among Europe's top 10 secret beaches — the kind of place you keep to yourself and return to quietly.
Mandria Beach
A newly unveiled stretch of coast with crystal-clear waters and stunning sunsets. Built for relaxation and little else — exactly as a beach should be.
Pomos Beach
Fully transformed after three years of upgrades into a cosy, comfortable and environmentally friendly shore. The drive north along the coast is half the experience.

Before You Go
Turtles
Respect nesting areas. No lights after dark near marked zones. No umbrellas in conservation areas. Keep your distance — watch in silence.
Sun
Factor 50+ and reapply after swimming. The Mediterranean reflection doubles UV exposure. Seek shade between noon and three.
Safety
Staffed beaches deploy smart lifebuoy technology — remote-controlled rescue buoys operated by lifeguards, part of the Smart holiday destination initiative.
