Kritou Terra
Built at an altitude of 570 metres, and located 29 kilometres from the city of Pafos, Kritou Terra is different from any other village in Cyprus. The village invites visitors with its charming beauty and distinctive character.
The stone-built water spring, known as Kefalovryso, lies at the entrance of the village. Built in 1908, it was once the third largest in Cyprus in terms of volume and provides an immediate taste of Kritou Terra's charm and personality.
Kefalovryso, with its six carved faucets that are still flowing today, supplied the area with clean water that irrigated the big orchards, powered four out of fifteen watermills, and filled the troughs of the communal laundry.
The only casino in Cyprus from 1880 was in Kritou Terra. A two-storey building, it operated as an entertainment and events centre as well as a gambling facility for many years drawing affluent clientele from nearby villages, other areas of Cyprus and abroad.
The medieval church of Agia Aikaterini Fytefkia (15th Century) stands out from the many churches and chapels of the village. Elements of its unique architecture have given inspiration to the architects of the renowned Anassa hotel.
